By most accounts, the history of the Oak Island Money Pit begins in the summer of 1795, when a teenager named Daniel McGinnis saw strange lights on an island. According to the author Lee Lamb, to investigate the island to the source of the lights, McGinnis noticed a peculiar circular depression about 13 meters across the forest floor of the island. Looking around McGinnis noted that a number of oak trees around the depression had been removed. McGinnis decided to leave the island to count on the help of two friends, John Smith and Anthony Vaughan. The next day, the three teenagers decided to dig the strange hole.
When they returned, eight years later, they continued to dig. To 12 meters a coal layer was found; To 15 meters one tar layer, and 18 meters a layer of coconut fiber. Until they reached 27 meters dug and found a stone with a mysterious alphabet. One possible translation would be: "Forty feet below, two million are buried." It was all the treasure hunters wanted: money! Today, scholars believe that the translation is incorrect, because it was very simple, and that it would contain the key to turn off the water traps of holes. The stone mysteriously disappeared in 1919

They continued to dig and then something tragic happened: the water started to flood the pit. The following day the well was filled to a level of 10 meters. They tried to pump water, which didn't solve. They dug a pit 30 meters below, which was also flooded by water.

MODERN RESEARCH:
In 2007 the brothers Rick and Martin Lagine bought most of the shares of the company that owns the control of Oak Island, becoming owners of the site. For years they investigated the stories and met the many necessary licenses to explore the site.
In February 2013 started his saga in the search, which was all recorded by the History Channel series called "The Curse of Oak Island."
The brothers have the help of Dan and Dave Blankenship, who dug the legendary 10x (well with 72 meters deep dug by hand, called Borehole 10-X).

The 10x pit is 55 meters from the "Money Pit" and is attached to it. Before collapsing, Daniel sank to the bottom and made a film which he reveals tools, boxes and a human body.
